Introductory computing courses aimed at KS3, designed to equip students with the skills andmotivation they’ll need to thrive in an ever-changing digital world Apps for Good’s Free Computing Courses 1 FREE, ADAPTABLE AND INCLUSIVE These open-source courses are ready to use or adapt for both computing and non- specialist teachers. They fit easily into curriculum or enrichment time, and have been proven to boost confidence and interest in computing – particularly amongst under-represented groups, such as girls. 2 INDEPENDENT LEARNING 69% of secondary teachers cite disengagement as a barrier to learning*, making it essential to link classrooms to real-world issues. The courses do exactly this, putting students in the driver’s seat to solve problems that matter to them and their communities. 3 INDUSTRY ENGAGEMENT A key part of each course is to provide students with embedded opportunities for gaining valuable career insights and connecting with real-world role models. The courses also support schools in meeting career readiness goals, fulfilling Gatsby Benchmarks 4 and 5. 4 ESSENTIAL DIGITAL SKILLS At the heart of the courses are skills. Skills Builder-accredited, the courses build core computing knowledge and digital literacy, alongside skills like teamwork, creativity and problem-solving – all vital for success in school, work and life.
