Teach Secondary Issue 14.3

possible for AI to analyse how students have performed in terms of the assumptions they present. Are those assumptions correct, or has the student got themwrong? Is their argument a rational one? Does each point logically follow from the one before? Has anything important been left out? AI can absorb near infinite amounts of knowledge, and therefore come up with a hundred or more perspectives on the material, and always suggest ways in which an essay could be made slightly better. What role could AI perform in creative subjects, like art and design, where outputs and outcomes can be much more subjective? MK: Another benefit of AI is its ability to provide students with a sounding board for their ideas, and an assistant that can help clarify their your playing technique. The role of AI isn’t limited to creating ‘new’ music, but can extend to helping music students improve their ability to sing and play music themselves. I play the sitar, and getting feedback that told me to ‘ Pull down on the string to move notes, rather than moving down the string ’, and then tell me if I was doing that accurately, would have been very helpful. A new learner’s ears might struggle to discern whether they’re playing a note correctly – an AI music tutor could instantly tell if they are. What safeguards –within your own education AI product and others – are in place to reassure teachers that any factual information provided is, indeed, accurate? MK: Teachers have a vital role to play as moderators. Everything Learno.ai can do is intended to be vetted by teachers first – be it grading, lesson plans, assignments or anything else. With newer AI models, the risk is less that they ‘make up’ stuff that’s wrong –more that they may say something which could be construed as misleading and gets misinterpreted by a student, which is where teachers’ moderating role comes in. BD: We also carefully curate the databases that Learno.ai can search, so it’s not going to end up pulling data and information from somewhere like [controversial chatroom] 4Chan. It will be restricted to credible sources when looking up information. WHAT IS LEARNO.AI? BD: We’ve rolled out Learno.ai in four Indian schools so far, and have several more that are starting now. For technology firms, there’s alpha testing, beta testing and then launch. We’ve finished our alpha testing, are now well into our beta phase and will very soon have a fully developed product. Via Learno.ai’s teacher portal, there are three key tasks that teachers can accomplish: ASSISTANCE: Allows teachers to create learning material for their classes, such as worksheets, a lesson plan or even a whole unit plan – for example, one comprised of eight lessons and eight assignments, which can be built out over an afternoon. TUTORS: These are designed to help students perform self-directed learning, having been specifically trained and created as teachers that possess pedagogical skills, rather than a standard ‘out of the box’ AI model that won’t be suitable for teaching applications. ASSIGNMENTS: When producing assignments using Learno.ai, teachers approve the creation of a rubric that’s used to grade essays (with grades able to be changed if needed) and can automatically generate detailed reports and feedback for students, based on prior guidance and input from the teacher. For more information, visit learno.ai thoughts, potentially inspiring them to come up with ideas that might not have thought of otherwise. That could prove to be of significant value in art especially, but also in science and mathematics. And then there’s music. Learning an instrument involves a lot of repetitive practise before being able to play well, but it can be hard to get feedback on where youmight be going wrong with 39 teachwire.net/secondary E D T E C H
