Adaptive learning tools Discover how our online PD courses can help you achieve 100 per cent conscious competence... THE NEXT BIG THING [ THE TREND ] ONLINE ADAPTIVE LEARNING Adaptive learning tools are a powerful way to help teachers and pupils achieve their potential. Mapped against a set of core teaching competencies, designed to enhance your knowledge and teaching methods, Hachette Learning Academy provides tailored courses, opening up new, personalised ways of learning and insights into your levels of understanding. WHAT’S HAPPENING? Everyone’s knowledge and confidence levels are different. Both CPD courses for teachers and learning tools for pupils need to be fast, flexible and tailored, rather than based on a one-size-fits-all method. Now, through its partnership with a world leader in adaptive learning, Hachette Learning can replicate the approach of one-to-one tutoring while delivering personalised learning at scale. The teacher CPD courses, in partnership with Area9 Lyceum, have been designed to save teachers time by responding interactively to their input and focusing on what you need to know. Adaptive learning resources assess not only understanding but confidence, so teachers can identify and address any areas that require intervention in real-time, making learning more time-efficient. WHAT’S THE IMPACT? The aim is for learners to reach 100 per cent ‘conscious competence,’ in the topic they’re learning. Data from pilot studies of Hachette Learning Academy’s short course for teachers on Using Questioning for Impact showed that, on average, teachers who completed this course improved their conscious competence by 33 per cent. The teachers in the sample had varying prior experience, from newly qualified teachers to senior leaders, so starting points therefore ranged from 13 per cent through to 75 per cent conscious competence in the strategies being taught through adaptive learning. All the teachers ultimately achieved 100 per cent conscious competence, showing that the course was successful in upskilling all participants, and all of them grew their awareness of their own competencies in the process. WHAT’S NEXT? Hachette Learning Academy’s next courses focus on supporting EAL learners and wellbeing for teachers and pupils. GET INVOLVED If you’d like to improve your confidence in key teaching competencies and receive immediate, actionable feedback without adding significantly to your workload or time commitments, get in touch with one of Hachette Learning’s consultants to find out more or set up a trial. Created by experts in teaching EAL and multilingual learners and designed to be integrated into the curriculum, the EAL short courses focus on social and academic proficiency, oracy, scaffolding and building vocabulary. Teachers will improve their understanding of how to support EAL students and add those tools meaningfully into their own classroom practice, boosting learners’ confidence and classroom communication and helping them work towards participation in wider school life. The aim of the two student and teacher wellbeing courses is for teachers to increase their confidence in embedding wellbeing practices into everyday teaching to improve learner engagement, emotional security and academic resilience.
