Distance Composit ion rat ios Light ing and angles Body language Will your character be close to or far away from the camera? Do you want to show their facial expressions up close? Do you want to show their poses clearly? Can you show the setting using far away or close-up pictures? Do you want your character in the middle of the picture? Use blocks of colour to help tell the story. Are there any objects you want in your picture? Where might you put them? Will your photo be dark or light? How will the lighting reflect the mood of your character? Will you take pictures of the character from above or below? How will the angles help show your character’s personality? What poses will your character do? How will their pose show what they are like? Will they look directly at the camera or look at something in the setting? What facial expression will they have to show the type of person they are? Instruments Choose a card and follow the instructions as a group to experiment with sounds. Note down any techniques and ideas you have in your sketchbook. • Choose from a selection of percussion instruments such as a tambourine, cow bell, hand drum, or a triangle. • You could also make your own instruments using objects in the classroom. • Think about the different sounds you can make with each instrument. • Try the instrument that represents YOUR sound. Take it in turns to make syncopated rhythms. Experiment by: • Finding the beat in the backing track. Can you clap along? • Practise syncopated rhythms, can you try clapping off the beat? • Clapping to the beat while someone else claps a syncopated rhythm. Experiment with different sounds you can make from your body parts. • Can you use clapping, patting, clicking or stomping? • ØĺĿČĺ ċūēNj ƎîƑƥƙ ČîŠ Njūƭ ƭƙĚȧ OūDž DžĿŕŕ ǛŠijĚƑƙ sound different from your thigh? • Can you use syncopated rhythms? Organise your sounds using the Structure Grid. • Draw symbols to represent each sound your group makes using instruments or body percussion. • Add one line of sounds for each person in your group. • Practise performing your new backing to the track. Dance Dance Cards Use these cards for tips on how to create fantastic moves. Repet it ion Use repetition to make your dance easy to copy. Which moves will you repeat? How many times will you repeat each move? Facial expression Can you make facial expressions to show how you feel? Try making a facial expression that you would pull if you were happy or excited. Make your facial expressions as exaggerated as possible. Exaggerat ion How can you make your moves bigger or more exaggerated? Now make a second list that includes more interesting alternatives (thesauruses allowed).
