With collaborators including Marvel Studios, the NHS and the National Grid, the gallery is based on real tasks technicians do every day – from creating visual effects on a blockbuster film set to analysing blood samples in a medical laboratory. Pupils can get hands-on with interactive exhibits that simulate job-related tasks to help them consider what they would like to do in the future. The experience has been designed to support you in providing pupils with meaningful encounters with multiple work environments. It also helps towards achieving some of the eight Gatsby Benchmarks for Good Career Guidance, which you can read more about via this QR code. CURRICULUM LINKS STEM The Technicians gallery recreates workplaces across multiple sectors through interactive exhibits that allow pupils to experience a variety of job-related tasks. CAREERS The free, 60-minute Careers Uncovered session for KS3/KS4 is led by real technicians; pupils will hear their stories and be encouraged to explore their own interests and skills. Young people will get hands-on with interactive exhibits that simulate technical, job-related tasks. Students will experience what it’s like to create visual effects on a blockbuster filmset, analyse blood samples in a medical laboratory, operate a robot in a manufacturers workshop and much more. 60-minute Careers Uncovered session Held inside the Technicians gallery, this free hands-on workshop gives pupils the opportunity to meet technicians and experience what it’s like to do their job. Pupils will take part in job-related tasks led by real-life technicians or a Q&A to showcase the skills they use in their day-to-day work. Careers activity trail The Science Museum has created an activity trail to help lead your pupils around the museum and discover the intriguing career stories behind its objects. Pupils will explore Medicine: The Wellcome Galleries; Mathematics: The Winton Gallery ; and Making the Modern World , finding out how real-life technicians helped design and build those objects.
