An Icelandic adventure We enjoyed a whale-watching tour and were lucky enough to see a large pod of dolphins, as well as porpoises and a minke whale. We visited Thingvellir National Park and learned how tectonic plate movement has helped to shape the landscape. And we visited the Great Geysir, where we saw a number of impressive eruptions! We also took the Golden Circle tour, viewing and going behind the waterfalls at Seljalandsfoss and Skogarfoss. OUR BIG DAY OUT “It was a truly unique experience” HowHalsbury Travel helped Royal Liberty School plan a once-in-a-lifetime school trip to Iceland www.halsbury.com T: 0115 9404 303 E: enquiries@halsbury.com // HALSBURY TRAVEL Science and geography Throughout this trip, we aimed to combine both science and geography. We wanted to look at the ecology of Iceland through activities such as whale watching, alongside learning about geological processes. Iceland is unlike any other country in terms of both its landscape and what it has to offer students. Before visiting, it was a destination that none of the students had previously been to, making it a truly unique experience for them. Planning made easy Halsbury are fantastic to work with. I know that if I provide a list of ideas about a trip, they will tailor it to be the best possible experience for us. As the staff had been to Iceland recently, they were able to offer ideas that we wouldn’t have thought of to make the trip even more enjoyable for the students. We’ve worked alongside Halsbury for several years, and the service we receive is always brilliant. { A TR I P OF F I RS T S } On top of the more conventional learning outcomes, we wanted to provide new and unique experiences for the students, which we were able to do. Before visiting Iceland, this was a destination that none of them had previously been to. This was a trip of firsts for many of them, from their first time seeing geysers to their first time whale watching. It really was a trip filled with many new experiences, which meant it was filled with even more awe and wonder. I would definitely recommend working with Halsbury. We’ve always had such positive experiences. They are so flexible, which means we can make each day full to the brim with activities that ensure students have the best possible experience. Unforgettable moments A highlight of the trip for many of the boys was hiking on the Solheimajokull Glacier, which saw us embark on a slippery but enjoyable walk to the very top, even managing to drink pure glacier water there! Experiences like this could be once-in-a-lifetime activities, whether that’s because students may not have another opportunity to visit Iceland, or because the glaciers may melt before they have a chance to return. www.teachwire.net/school-trips | 23 PARTNER CONT ENT
